A HISTORYC COMPANY
Great ideas come from a bit of genius and the right intuition. Equally good ideas come from the desire to improve, be it the work done or an entireprocedure. But the best ideas, in our opinion, arise when these factors are combined with the need to start something new, giving it all the passion, experience and initiative possible.
Pierluigi Coccon was someone who started something new, something which didn’t exist before. In the 1960s, he laid the foundations for his job as a freight forwarder, a guest in the office of another company, working with nothing more than a mechanical calculator. Then, in 1973, the first Professional Customs Studio was founded when a group of freelance customs agents united to form a company, launching a professional relationship solid enough to last until the day they all retired, forty years later.
The company was, and is, based on collaboration as a way to resolve the problems of individual port operators as they grapple with balancing multiple operations (which can’t always be standardised) for multiple clients with very quick turnaround times. In addition, they were dealing with an industry –customs –that is as vast and full of pitfalls as the open seas, which is why collaboration and sharing best practices and knowledge became the key to success.
From these first steps towards independence, shipping companies increasingly began to entrust their customs-related services to outsourcers. SDC di Pierluigi Cocconi & C. Snc was founded amid this historical context, creating the right conditions to become the company it is today, adding services and skill sets. From the airport of Venice, the business expanded to the port of Marghera, to the Marittima port area and what was then Punto Franco. Today, SDC can be found throughout Italy and in the Balkans, directly or through its partners. The company continues to make big plans for the future, proudly remembering its past and looking for guidance from its administrators, who started it all by ‘getting their hands dirty’.
